At first, they tried to collect the tax from local people. But the people there don't want to pay more tax, because they'v already had a heavy tax. English goverment can only try to collect tax from the colonist. But the colonist said the goverment can't collect tax from them, because they don't have representative. So the goverment don't have right to control them. And also, They thought if they have the stamp taxes, they have more taxes. It’s a bad precedent. But English government doesn't care.

The government pay a lot money to find someone to put a stamp on all the stuff need to print. It means government can get the direct tax.

After the Stamp Act, The government cancel this kind of tax, but they still keep collecting tax by other ways.
